Romana’s Chronicles - 7

Candle Wax – Here One Moment, Gone the Next: Where Does it go?

You light your Romana’s candle. It flickers. It glows. The flame dances, and the scents of lavender and sandalwood fill the room – suddenly your space feels like a five-star spa in the Cape Winelands. But as the hours pass, something curious happens…
The wax begins to vanish. Is it magic? A fragrant alchemy? Or is the candle off on an invisible adventure?

Not Magic—But Still Rather Marvellous
When you light a Romana’s candle, you are not just flicking a lighter or striking a match. You are igniting a chain of elegant science that would make Newton proud.

Here is how it all unfolds:
·       You light the wick.
·       The flame melts the wax nearby.
·       That melted wax is drawn up the wick—yes, like a straw sipping on sophistication.
·       The wax vapourises and burns.
·       Voilà—it becomes carbon dioxide, water vapour, heat, and light.

So no, the wax is not sulking in the bottom of the jar—it has greater plans.

Am I Inhaling Wax, then?
Sort of—but do not panic.
As the wax burns, most of it becomes carbon dioxide and water vapour, just like your breath after climbing a flight of stairs while pretending you are not out of shape. As long as you are burning high-quality, non-toxic candles – like Romana’s – you’re in the clear. Our waxes are carefully chosen for clean, safe burning—no synthetic additives. No nonsense.

What About the Soot?
Soot can appear when your wick is too long or your candle is burning in a draughty hallway. It is simply just tiny carbon particles gatecrashing the party because they did not burn properly. To keep things graceful, trim your wick to about 6mm before lighting. Always. Think of it as grooming for your candle—it deserves to look its best.

So… It Doesn’t Just Melt?
Nope. Only a little wax actually melts into the pool you see. The rest is whisked away into the air – transformed into warmth, light, and that signature Romana’s scent that turns a simple evening into a mood.
If candles simply melted into a puddle, they would not give off that radiant glow. It is the burning—not just the melting—that creates the magic.

In Summary: Where Does the Wax Go?
Into the air—gracefully, invisibly—as carbon dioxide, water vapour, heat, and light. That is the secret to a truly luxurious burn. Your Romana’s candle is not disappearing—it is working its quiet magic and making itself unforgettable.
So, the next time someone asks, “Where did the wax go?” you can answer with a twinkle in your eye:

“It became warmth, light, and luxury—that’s the essence of Romana’s.”
